Cheeku,
Another year passes into the past and another year is on the doorstep, unfolding the future. As 2009 steps over the threshold, I look at myself and I look at Time and wonder if I would ever know how I should understand time-as past, present or future. Or as you have seen it-eternity.
I recently read “The Winter Sun: Notes on a Vacation” by Fanny Howe. A passage from one the essays reminded me so starkly of my own thoughts…the way I often sit and talk to you across time and space and eternity:
“If you could take my hand and lead me along the streets and paths with your free hand outstretched and finger pointing to a future place and say, That is where we are going. Then even if what I saw ahead was chaos and pain, I could think, There is no reason to fear after all.
If you could say, We will have to travel along separate roads battered by tumultuous weather, disappointment, starvation, hospitals, jails, and physical pain, but we are going There, to that point you see up ahead. There is where we will be together at the end.
Look, see our future out there?
Then I would be able to say now, All will be well.”
Point to me That place, tell me That is the place we shall be together in the end…
I miss you and everyone else misses you too…
A Very Happy New Year to you Cheeku. Brighten the stars with your presence, fill the Universe with your laughter…
Dad
