Daya Nana left

Cheeku

Daya Nana left for celestial home on 5 October. He has joined your gang up there. I know at this moment he would be demanding rabri and kachori and you must be trotting up to some special shop to bring it not just for him but also for your party-or a pizza…

Dayaji had a child like quality about him that made him so special. He was a towering intellect, but then there could be others too, with equally scintillating brain and incisive intellect. What made him different was his capacity to work on hugely diverse issues simultaneously and then find some synthesis in them which would elude most others. At the time of his departure he was working on some complex problem of mathematics, on Kant and on rearaanging the Rg Veda…and at the level of publishing a book on each! But that didn’t prevent him from distributing jalebis to all around him with unadulterated glee when India won T20 World Cup and asking Deepesh the implications of a No Ball other than the possibiity of hitting 7 sixes in one over!

A remarkable life and a remarkable death. Sudden, ceremonially done, with no sorrow, just laughter and joy…

So much like you, Cheeku, so much like you-the fountain of mischief and joy, the source of all plans of ‘masti’, of spending an evening full of action and fun…there is not a moment I don’t miss your not being around…and your friends miss you all the time too.

N Hanyate!

Dad
