The sea is crashing

The sea is crashing beneath me somewhere. On the horizon the sea and the sky are glued together by dark clouds. I sense it is raining there. The fading light of the evening is bringing into bold relief bobbing, twinkling lights of fishermen?s boats dotting the skyline. It is twilight.

The horizon seems to be the boundary of the eternity. Beyond the horizon there seems to be the other world where mortals cannot venture, where the one?s loved by the Gods dwell. My eyes search for you in the vastness of the ocean and the infinite depth of the sky. There is spray in the air, my eyes are misty, I can?t see that clearly. Over the crashing waves, I strain my ears to hear your voice, your familiar laughter. A seagull flies across towards the ocean. I try to follow her path. You are part of this vastness of spaces and free to soar as high as you wish. I, your father, live with the limitation of human body. I stand and raise both my arms hoping they would turn into wings and allow me to fly into the sunset and into your world. I can’t. I must still wait some more.

In the gathering darkness, do I see the glimpse of your vibrant face, your sweet smiling face just a little at a distance now looking at me, now shrouded by the mist in the air, or is it in my eyes?
